About GIEL

Because of on-going ethical challenges in business, government and non-profits, people need to learn about the negative consequences of ignoring ethics; and conversely, the positive impact ethics can have on profits and reducing risk.  GIEL particularly focuses on smaller organizations who want to do good and provides complete solutions on how to develop winning cultures.

The long-term mission of The Global Institute for Ethical Leadership is to develop outstanding programs on ethical leadership and to train others to implement those programs so that we will have a positive impact on businesses and other private and public organizations in the Houston Metro area, the state of Texas, the United States, and the world.

History

The idea for the Global Institute for Ethical Leadership began with Dr. Larry Ruddell in 2001 as he taught and carried out more research in the area of business ethics. Having worked at Enron in the mid-1990s, he saw first hand the results of not living out business ethics and began to realize the need to encourage businesses to actively apply ethical principles in doing business. GIEL was incorporated as a Texas non-profit on July 23, 2004 ( Texas, led by its original board members: Dr. Larry Ruddell, Sonya Weisser, and Patrick Thornton.) We exist and have always existed to challenge leaders to understand and implement ethics in business for the benefit of themselves, their people, and the world.
